Convert from Pentode to Triode mode (details to follow - see
Audio Asylum archives for specifics). You will need 4 - 100ohm
resistors (1 watt is adequate). This is a great newbie mod... not
difficult, but produces great results.
Replace the four 0.22uf - 400V coupling caps with 0.22 - 630V caps
of your choice (Hovland, Multicap, Infinicap, and Jensen oil caps are
good choices).
Replace critical signal path resistors with Riken carbon film,
tantalum (expensive) or other high quality resistor of choice - 1W
resistors for most positions, 2W and 3W in PS and high voltage
areas.
Upgrade the selector switch to a high quality selector switch
(Grayhill - $20, or other) or completely bypass selector and
run signal source direct from RCA's to volume pot to main circuit
board.
Upgrade the volume pot to TKD, Alps, or Noble pot - space is tight.
TKD sounds sweet and fits well, but is expensive ($58).
Remove the balance pot and run signal wires directly from RCA's to
the selector switch to the volume pot and out to the main circuit
board. Remove the daughter circuit board from the volume pot and
balance pot and solder directly to pins on volume pot.
Replace the input signal wire with Cardas 2x21.5ga shielded litz wire
from the CD source to the front end. Use two runs of 2x21.5ga with
shield for each source input, one for the left channel and one for the
right channel. Ground shields at RCA grounds or main circuit board
ground only. Float the other end of the shield. Do not use shield
as common.
